DISCOVERING OUR PROBLEM
This project was conducted with two teammates Madeline Miranda (Art Director) and Taylor Bendus (Copywriter). After getting our brief, our team conducted research to try and find the societal problem we wanted to tackle. After preliminary research we found staggering statistics on loneliness.
“36% of Americans feel serious loneliness”. (Harvard Grad School of Education)
“Research shows making a casual friend takes 50 hours on average, while close friendships take 200 hours.” (INC.Com)
This launched us into the next part of our discovery phase.
SURVEY
To gain more insights on the current pain points of friendship making apps (current digital solution to lonliness) we conducted a survey and sent it out to facebook groups in the Richmond, Virginia area. The survey received over 50 responses which help lead us to our insight.

DEFINING OUR INSIGHT AND IDEA
From the survey results, we found that there are many problems with the current market of friendship apps like Bumble BFF, Meetup, etc.
People were still looking to date.
Found it hard to continue to hang out long term.
Felt forced to talk and hang out.
Hard to find people with similar interests.
No tailored events.
It was difficult to connect One on One.
These 1 on 1 hangouts felt awkward, pressured, and intimate to these users. Ultimately led our group to the concept of Acquaint. Where we match users in groups of three to five, based on their innate personality traits and shared interests, and offer tailored events to encourage users to meet.

USER JOURNEY
Creating the user journey and mapping out all parts of the experience was crucial for this project since there are many intricacies of the product. It was important to find a way to keep users on the app, and want to keep meeting new people, which is why the feedback and deletion of the chat is an important feature of Acquaint.
